Upcoming Events in St. Louis

Spring is just around the corner and we could not be more excited.  While we savor a nice slow winter, when we can enjoy a little time off to hibernate, the beginning of warmer weather has us feeling rejuvenated and ready for a hard work (and playing!) season. Here’s a round-up of the events we are eagerly awaiting.

1. St. Louis Earth Day, Sunday April 24, Muny grounds in Forest Park

St. Louis Earth Day Festival

This festival has long roots in the St. Louis community and we continue to be impressed by the work being done to help our citizens learn and celebrate together!  Click the logo above to see their website, plans for the day and how to participate.  There are informational booths, giveaways, yoga classes, local food, demonstrations, and more.  Be sure to check out this great event.

2. Missouri Botanical Garden’s Honeysuckle Sweep! March 5-13

Bush Honeysuckle in Winter

Even without leaves you can see the dense thicket Bush Honeysuckle creates near the Great River Greenway trail at Deer Creek.

Before the Honeysuckle starts to leaf out, let’s hack it! Missouri Botanical Garden has compiled a list of volunteer events taking place across the week of March 5-13 to help rid our community of 35,000 square feet of Bush Honeysuckle.  This event is encouraging our community to learn more about native plants and how they benefit our region’s biodiversity.  Can you spare a few hours to help with this important effort? We are! Join us 9am March 5 at Deer Creek Park with the Open Space Council for St. Louis.

3. Arbor Day, First day of April

As a Tree Service company of course this made our list! The first Arbor Day was held in 1872 and we are so happy that the tradition has continued.  There is a National Arbor Day on April 29, and many other states observe the holiday on different days to reflect the best times to plant trees in various zones.  We will share a post on planting a tree in your yard in April!  There are often tree giveaways by local organizations around Arbor Day too. (April 1st from 9 to 5pm at Missouri Botanical Gardens is one!)

4. First day of spring Sunday, March 20 ( And all the blooms that come with it!)

Soon our trees will have leaves again, but first, bring on the BLOOMS!  Plants don’t usually bloom on the same day every year, our temperatures vary and so do these flowers.  March isn’t when most trees with showy flowers start blooming, but with this warm weather… who knows!

More at the Garden this Spring:

  • The Missouri Botanical Garden has been renovating the Children’s Garden and Interpretive center.  Set to reopen to the public on April 2 & 3 in a big way! Check out their website for more info.
  • The Orchid Show ends March 27, check it out if you haven’t already.

What events are you looking forward to soon?  Let us know if there is another event that should be on our radar.
